Reese Harper - A Newborn Session Full of Significance

When I first started this hobby, I really struggled with newborn photos.  While I’m still no expert, I’m finally getting the hang of it!  This session was exceptionally fun for me because it was full of significance.  Welcome to the world - Reese Harper Handzus.

Lindsey brought many things with her to this shoot which made the creativity easier on my part.  What I loved about everything she brought is that it holds a very important significance to her and her family.

The saddle - I love how content Reese is here!  The saddle is significant because it belonged to Lindsey’s stepmother.  She (her stepmother) rode using this saddle for many years.  Lindsey’s dad gave her the saddle and it’s something she will always hold dear to her since her stepmother’s passing.

The jacket belonged to Lindsey’s grandmother.  I’m pretty sure we can all remember a jacket like this at some point in our lives - whether it’s something a grandparent or parent wore.

The glove was given to Lindsey her sophomore year of high school.  Those of you who know Lindsey know that not only does she love softball, but she’s pretty dang good at it as well!  She still uses the glove to this day.

The final significant piece is this blanket.  I LOVE the meaning behind this.  When Jake’s mom was pregnant with him, she was told throughout her pregnancy that she would be having a girl.  Jake….was supposed to be Jenna.  That’s why there are “girl” colors if you will in this blanket!

Briggs is a great big brother!  He’s a ball of energy and I can only imagine how much he keeps Lindsey and Jake on their toes.  This session was a BLAST and I can’t want to see more of Briggs and Reese throughout the year!

Class of 2015 - Alex Enters His Senior Year!

When I arrived in Ottawa, not knowing the area very well, Alex told me of some stairs he knew on a bike bath that he thought would be a good place for his pictures.  When we got there, I LOVED the area!  It was the perfect place in regards to scenery and lighting!

Alex was a quiet one.  He told me he was doing these for his mom.  I know that was his way of saying he wasn't really thrilled, but as a mother myself I thought it was sweet that he just wanted to make her happy.  I know his mom was hesitant, too, about how he would act during the session.  He did great!  He took direction well!

We started off by looking for foxes (as Alex's sister said they hide in places like where we were).  Once we knew we were in the clear, we got to work!

The area we were in was very small, but if you want back into all of the little hidden places, there were great places for the pictures.  Once again, Alex took charge here and I'm pretty sure anytime I shoot in Ottawa I will use this place!

The shoot went very well.  Alex was quiet yet cooperative, his sister kept the foxes away, and we got some really good shots!

Zac Wheeler - Class of 2014 - Music to the Ears

As a teacher I always enjoy being able to speak with my students to see what their goals and ambitions are.  What's even more refreshing is hearing that a student has high hopes for their own future.  Introducing Zac Wheeler - Class of 2014!

Throughout this session Zac was very relaxed and kind of a pro at this whole picture thing.  He knew where to look, what to do, and he didn't complain when I asked him to stand awkwardly!   WINNER WINNER!

I loved that Zac chose his running shoes for the pictures for two reasons: 1) he's an avid runner and has beat me many times in the 5Ks in the area (by a lot), and 2) they were bright!

Another love of Zac's is the Saxophone, and he has hopes of playing in the pep band when he leaves for school in the Fall.  I think that's awesome because to me the pep band creates an exciting environment for every event!

I wish Zac the best as he continues on to further his education and decide what path he wants to follow in life!

Mom + Dad = 3 Handsome Boys!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting up with Jessica and Brian (along with their 3 little boys) to take some updated pictures as they all grow so quickly.  Every time I get to be around these boys I leave with a smile on my face.  They.  Are.  Precious!

Now, I have one boy, and sometimes he is enough to make me need a glass of wine or two.  Jessica and Brian have 3 boys, and they are the most relaxed, calm, laid-back parents I've ever seen.  I absolutely love it!

Jackson is the older brother.  He's the one that is quiet, but mischievous.  While his wheels are turning, he puts on an adorable smile that would lead any stranger to believe he's just being sweet!

Greyson is the one that makes me laugh so hard.  The entire photo session he was shouting, "CHEEEEESSSSSSEEEEEE!"  And in some of these pictures, you can tell!  His wheels are also always turning, but he doesn't try to hide it like Jackson does!

Hudson.  He's the youngest brother that is going to learn from the mistakes made by Jackson and Greyson.  He has a sweet, innocent look about him.  As of right now, at 6 months, I don't think there is anything other than love behind that smile!

In a nutshell, this family is amazing.  The boys are handsome and hilarious, the parents are loving and laid-back, and when you put that all together you simply get perfection!
